This term the children in the EYC are focusing on the many cultural events that are happening around the world.
The biggest one this year is definitely the Tokyo Olympics- Paralympics where the children explored many different concepts from geography to physical activity, anthems and fair play. The children were all involved in a medal tally where they were all given a different country to follow
which demonstrated the importance of contributing and competing no matter the win, lose or draw outcomes.
In other celebrations this term we explored Naidoc week where the children discussed, recognised and acknowledged the theme of Heal Country and the integral contribution of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to our lives, our country and our community.
Dental week was also a lot of fun with lots of large teeth to brush, flossing in between teeth and (channeling Mrs Marsh) we showed the children how “it does get in!”
Celebrating significant cultural events such as these helps children gain a sense of belonging within their community and understanding of how they can contribute to their world in ways that affect them.
